you say that you are using OSX? make sure that you have repaired system permissions, and that you have write access to the folder you are saving/publishing to - especially if on a server.
also check to make sure that you are not trying to overwrite an existing file that could be locked.
both of these have been responsible for me getting an alert such as yours in the past . . . that is not to say that something else is awry. in other cases i have only been able to get around this by completely deleting the view/publish item and reproducing it.
