Once imported, the object looks grey, when I try to change the material, the entire object is changed. How do I do this successfully - I have looked at a a previous post, and it didn't work.
Please help.
Thanks,
Hayley.

3DS objects typically import with multiple materials that you can find in the parameters within the settings dialog. These sometimes have useful names but often do not so that figuring out which is which can be a bit of a pain (ie trial and error).
So far I have not worried about the textures. There may be a way to get them to read automatically but I haven't investigated this. I assume that you can modify or create a material to use the texture and then apply it in the appropriate parameter. This may also require setting the texture origin in 3D depending on the circumstances, though this could be tricky.

You might also consider checking the box "Use Object's Materials."

When converting the 3ds to gsm, I have lwft the box 'Import Hidden Obects' & 'Use texture's alpha channel' ticked. Once converted, I have left the 'Use objects materials'. The result is black with shades of grey whereas ths original is wicker coloured.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
ps. I appreciate all replies as I have been in the dark on this issue for ages and was beginning to think that no-one would reply.
