Import of .dwg/.dxf (ArchiCAD 9 Student, OSX 10.4.5)

Hi there!,

Just having a problem with importing above filetypes from AutoCAD (PC). They are saved even in 2000 format - and still I cannot import (open) them. Actually I can open them, I see all layers (they are simple drawings e.g. a 3D simple extrude on the basis of satellite image) - but I cannot see anything on the drawing, like these files were empty!!! No idea why, tried so many settings, also unlocking, unfreezing layers in AutoCAD etc. etc. but nothing helps. Somebody had a same problem?

I could be wrong, but I thought one of the limitations of the student version was that it could not open DWG files.

It does dwg import though it does not do dwg export. The main problem I have had with imported dwg's lies with it's hatches command. You might have a hatch in the dwg that has its origing a couple of thousand miles away from the project, thus you cannot see the dwg. Possible solution is to "suspend groups" select the fill tool in the toolbox, do a CTRL+A (select all) and erase the fills.

If the 3D is done with solids, that is why.

Convert to meshes, and bring in as a library part.

Hi,

Thanks for replies - it is good to know, one's not alone with his problems 😉 Concerning the 3D - I also imported flat 2D .dwg/.dxf with the same bad result. That's the problem. I think it might be something wrong with my view settings? But which...?

Also tried with these hatches - seems like that's not an issue. Nothing changed. Also noticed, that sometimes after opening the AutoCAD file has e.g. 20 layers, with something like automatic names (not given by human). Sometimes it opens normally (the file I am trying on is a simple 2D drawing)...
