Linking 2 archicad files

Is it possible to create a xref using a pln file and not a dwg? If so can someone explain how it works.

Not an XREF as such but you can HOTLINK a PLN (or DWG, DXF, MOD files, etc.).
Hotlink is the way to link Archicad files.
