Pulling Core, Skins & custom text into Interactive Sched

Hi,
Is there a way of:
1. Pulling the wall Composite Core and Skins into Interactive Schedule?
2. Creating a custom text for a element like walls, then pulling it into the Interactive Schedule?
Thanks,
Joseph Harouni

Not AFAIK. You can do this with list schemes and property scripts.

Yes. Put your text in one of the "User Defined" fields and include that field in your IS field list via the additional params button for the subtype of your element.

Great it will solve half the problem; now where are these "User Defined" fields for elements like walls or objects located?
Thanks,
Joseph

For library parts, the values for these User Defined fields can be edited under the "ArchiFM & Listing Parameters" section of the Parameters in the Object Settings dialog. (As well as in the I.S. itself.)

It doesn't seem that you can associate additional info with basic elements (like walls). Sorry; I had thought it was possible. Apparently, property scripts are the only option there AFAIK, which precludes interactive editing.

Karl thank you for the response, I can to office on sunday to see if I hear from you and to my delight your post was there, I have looked at all your posts on Lists/IS (and the ones on Tips&Tricks) and read through them carefully and have got a lot better understanding of the topic but one last question remains (for now):
I am trying to make a schedule of walls which will contain the core of the wall as let say 2x4 @ 16" O.C., skins of "5/8" Gyp Brd" and "5/8" PlyWood" ........all these have been assigned to in Composites (same principle applies to floors and roofs composites). There is no calculations involved here, simply reading data and no need for property scripts. This seems to be a basic need of any Architectural/Structural plan (I do not know how other AC users note the type of walls used), but if this can not be done in I.S. I can deal with it but I can not even locate the Core or Skin informations in Element List, so I feel very lost. Thanks you in advance for any guidance.

Ah, you've found the Emporer's New Clothes. One would think that the fills assigned to skins of a composite would have some inherit meaning ... e.g., 1/2" GWB should be 1/2" GWB shouldn't it? Alas, no. It is just a 1/2" skin with fill whose name is "GWB" and AC has no logic to associate any information with that skin...or to automatically let us extract even the composite structure. Because of this, you can have a frame wall as you describe which comes up in a list as being made of CMU! Not very intuitive.

AFAIK, property scripts are the only way to generate multiple components for a wall ... e.g., takeoffs for each skin of a composite. The I.S. is unaware of skins. The GDL global variables WALL_SKINS_NUMBER and WALL_SKINS_PARAMS allow retrieval of the composite information for a wall by a door or window ... and I presume (have not tried) a property script.

The practical alternative to writing a generic "smart" script, is to just write a property script for each composite that you create (as in the examples shipped with AC). This is drudgery, since you need to copy so much information that you just entered in the Composites dialog ... and is subject to many errors - transcription errors (you use 1/2" GWB in your script but your composite has 5/8"), and maintenance/evolution errors (you modify your composite to have a 2x6 core and forget to modify the property script which still thinks the core is 2x4). In spite of this (!), it is not that bad to write a script for each composite and just have it be associated automatically with any wall (or floor, etc.) built with that composite.... and from there, you generate a component list from the Calc menu.

Sadly, if all you want to do is say that the wall consists of those elements (GWB, 2x core, plywood) and don't care about the area, volume, etc. ... it is still about the same amount of work. Either a generic property script to retrieve and format the skin info (again, I haven't tried this) ... or the script-per-composite approach.

All, AFAIK from dabling. Others who have actually done this, please jump in!

Cheers,
Karl

PS I haven't had time to think through my full wish list for the Calc functions and so haven't contributed to the other thread where GS is looking for input on this topic. But, one thing I would wish for is this: an expandable Composites dialog that provides appropriate check marks and fields so that it visually generates ... and maintains... an associated property script for each composite without requiring any GDL (although additional code could be added if required).

Karl thanks a million for not letting me to spin my wheels any further. I am going to create different Fill names for different walls and use the I.S. to create the schedules till GS comes up with an easier approach. I want to stay an Architectural / Engineer with AC know how and not the other way around.
By the way when I create a new List by duplicating, when tring to save my new list I get the following message about List Scheme "LISTSET.TXT" to be over written; what could I be doing wrong?

I'm not sure about the warning message - I've never seen it before and can't make it appear. But, you do realize that list schemes have no relation to the Interactive Scheduler (which started these questions)? The I.S. has it's own settings files (*.iss) and you cannot import list scheme information or otherwise convert it to an *.iss.

HTH.

Glad I could help.

Thanks Karl for your replay.
I know Lists do not have a relation to I.S., I am trying to implement the power of Lists. After I duplicate a list from Set Up List Scheme or trying to create a new one, once I am done with the scheme, clicking on O.K. gives me this message. So I loss all my settings.
I tried calling GS US, they acknowledge the problem and after some research they said, some thing like:
"open ArchiCad Library 81.pln archive to extract all the parts (to were I do not know) then (some how over write the listset.txt with a new name) now reload the ArchiCad Library 81.pln and save as archive". They were not so clear themselves, and they mentioned it will be fixed in later version. Kind of lost what I am suppose to do. I thought this is some thing every one has encountered but I guess not, specially if Karl does not know. Any guidance?
Thanks,
Joseph

If my short experience w AC can be of any example, I complained of a bug...GS ackowleged and said it would be forthcoming....It did, and I didn't have to wait for a major upgrade. GS is very committed to resolving bugs of this nature...If all I can do is provide a little calm to your situation, rest assured. GS will take care of it!
