Using an Excel Spreadsheet instead of the Schesules in AC

Has anyone writen an object that can read an excel spreadsheet? The use for this being that you could use excel for schedules instead of the schedules in AC.

I really doubt you will find an object that can read straight Excel XLS. If you had a really dedicated programmer, you could read CSV, XML, or other plan text formats, but it would have to be pretty rigidly formatted.

I was on a real kick trying to do that last year.... I never really for anywhere with it. I decided it was better to export from Archicad than to try to read into it,.

This is one of those questions that begs for more information. Can you back up a step and explain why this would be useful?

The benefits of BIM of course are live extraction of data from the model. If you want to bring schedules in from external sources...what processing would you want to do with that data within AC that you need to read the data into an object? If it is a static schedule, just bring in a PDF file.

It is more typical that users want to extract data from the model and join it with additional database information externally and then place the final formatted result (via PDF file placement on a layout).
