Vehicle turning radius and parking add-on - Do you need it?

David Larrew

I am trying to get a software developer to develop an ArchiCAD add-on that helps design roadways and parking lots using vehicle specifications.

The developer is Transoft Solutions.
The product is AutoTURN.

www.transoftsolutions.com/transoft/products/at/product_overview.asp

They currently have plug-ins for AutoCAD and Microstation. When I inquired about an interest to develop an ArchiCAD add-on they replied that I was the first/only person to request it. I though if enough ArchiCAD users requested or inquired about their product they might be interested in developing an add-on.

I've seen AutoTURN in action, it definitely is a great design tool. BTW - many municipalities are requesting, if not requiring, the designer to submit AutoTURN (or similar) output to verify emergency vehicle access within large developments.

Have you seen the tracking curves in the Central Innovation Essentials library?
This is available to AUS Archicad subscribers.

Having just finished a vehicle turning path object, the question that needs asking, is what functionality is truly needed? As in, do you need cars only or does it need to go as far as articulated trucks/buss'?
Having had to learn the physics behind it all, I can tell you the jump from rigid to articulated vehicles is a HUGE one!!
To be honest, for most people the vehicle turning templates are good enough.
And an add-on is massive overkill because it can be handled in a 2D object that gives simple, understandable visual feedback! (Plus reissuing an add-on every Archicad version has it's own issues, historically)

That's just my two cents anyways.
Ask me about rocket trajectories some time!

Hi - if you're an NZ or Australian Select customer, or a Ci Tools Premium subscriber, the tracking curve objects shown in the screenshot a few replies back are available in your Ci Select Library under 'Site' - 'Vehicle Tracking Curves'.

Unfortunally im not from NZ or Australia im from Europe, cadimage had this tool for free, i have the old version, but now its completly trash... I already email them, and the solution they gave was to buy the premium Ci tools Package, witch cost 79€/month, i dont have the need for Ci tools, only this specifc library. Witch was vailable until version 19 or 20... If someone could share it was amazing...

That's right, yes, we gave it away for free as a promotional item about 5 years or so ago. That was just a one-off giveaway though.

Since then, some changes in Archicad made it no longer work in newer versions, so we remade it from scratch and include it for our Select customers and Premium Subscribers only.

Those are the only current distribution channels for it though - if you aren't an ANZ Select customer or a Ci Tools Premium subscriber, there's no other way to get the objects.
