We need 3DS support natively

So I've been thinking about placing 3DS models into archicad.

Now I'm not sure if anyone else knows how useful these files are.
But think about it, why should we be limited by archicad libaries and BIM libraries to get models from.

What if I see a nice model I want to use online? I have to put it in sketchup or I have to use a rubbish converting program that doesn't even convert the textures properly for use into archicad.

So why do you want 3DS file support natively? Well think about it, if You've got your library of 3DS files linked to archicad (meaning they aren't built into the project taking up room)
Then you can drag in the nice 3D model you love from the side of your project where you keep all the other things you use reguallary.

Then you're making zero effort when it comes to 3D rendering, export to artlatist or other 3D rendering program and render, textures, models and so on are taken care of by archicad and you don't have to waste time fiddling with rendering programs which don't make it easy to place your objects.

I think we all need to seriously suggest this to Graphisoft so that they do something about this.

(Mind my spelling i've got dyslexia)

3ds is a messy format, does support only triangles (no quads or polygons).
And it is natively supported by AC - in Help\Downloads You have Goodies section where the appropriate plugin is ready to download 😉

The plug works quite well (regarding the model is triangulated - but without the extra edges - the smooth ones will not be visible in AC, however the resulting GSM file may be big)
If the proper UV mapping is done in the 3ds there will not be unneded edges or triangles on the contrary to skp or c4d import.

If You prefer to tweak imported model I would suggest c4d format that supports quads or polygons, however the unneeded edges show - but if the model is changed to morph to tweak - there will be less edges to remove if You are optimizing the model file size.
