Another issue is that if I try to go to the URL that is my GSM file, my browser's QuickTime plug-in intercepts it since that's the file extension for a raw audio stream file, so I can't download a GSM file from the web unless I right-click on the hyperlink, right?I guess this Graphisoft plug-in helps in the above issue, but it would be nice if it also enabled drag-and-drop into an ArchiCAD session (it only allows the user to save the GSM file to disk, right?).

AFAIK, i-drop is an Autodesk-only technology? Not clear what you mean by "Autodesk-only." You can drag-and-drop DWG data via i-drop into ArchiCAD. If you mean you can only drop Autodesk data via i-drop into ArchiCAD, then it looks like you are correct. Keep in mind that i-drop is a general tool for dragging-and-dropping any kind of data--it just seems that the ArchiCAD implementation only likes DWG data.
IMHO, it is better to drag the object into a folder of either the Company Library or Project LibraryOkay, so it seems that the best-practice scenario of grabbing GSM files from the web would follow this workflow (downloading them into these folders) also.
