Custom column modeling

This is a column that I modeled for an existing building. I used a slab for the bottom piece, 4 mesh triangular pieces on top, another slab for the main length of the column, an upside down "object" of the 4 meshs at the top, then a couple more slabs for the capital.

Everything is the same material. Why don't they clean up in elevations?

It seems meshes with the same material as slabs don't blend as a slab/slab or slab/wall will.

Why not increase the height of the base slab to include the height of the triangular slope and then use a roof and trim to roof or Solid Element Operation it to create the angle?

Thanks Barry! That did the trick. I tried to stay away from too much roof / seo methods, but I guess that's the only way to make it work. I wish GS will give us easier ways to model things. This is SUCH a simple column and it took me all night...
