Chamfer Tool - Can only enter feet

Anonymous
Not applicable
Simple 2D line editing, when chamfering two lines, one enters the radius of the chamfer. Suddenly, I can only enter dimensions in feet, not inches or just inches. The project is teamworked and no other team members are having the problem. Is this some small but hidden preference I've unexpectedly turned on or some weird bug?

Thanks, I just checked that and its set to "feet and fractional inches". Still only will take dimensions as whole feet.

Is it possible that you are not entering the inch symbol fast enough for your current work environment field-timout settings?

If you aren't aware, the "/" (forward slash) key is the same as the inch symbol, so 3/ is 3 inches. Try typing that quickly and see if it is accepted? No matter what your preferences, it should be. If so, then it is a work environment thing.

Cheers,

Attached image shows the Work Environment's auto-update / timeout value. The default of 1.5 seconds is too fast for most users I've trained. I'm a fast typist and find 2 seconds works for me. If you type slowly, make the time value longer.

Cheers,
Karl

That was it, for reasons unknown it had been changed to 0 seconds! No one in the office is confessing to be the author of the prank.

Thanks!

Ha! That's great!

Reminds me of switching the cursor snap range to 1 pixel or the Line Drawing option to Mac classic-like. Or enabling ArchiCAD sounds and changing it to a Homer "D'oh". Would drive people nuts.

Cheers,
Link.

True if your Working Units are set to feet & fractional inches, not if they are set to feet & decimal inches. I did not test the other options.

I work mostly in metric but do go into "Imperial" sometimes. Thanks Karl and David for the tip and warning respectively. I used to type (for example) 0-3 to get 3 inches but 3/ is certainly better.
