Composites

working with composites and documenting a residential project.

I've got a wall composite which comprises;
10mm internal skin
90mm framing
40mm external cladding skin.

Each of these is designated in the "composite structures" window as a "finish-core-finish"

We need to create different plans for our documentation - floor plans, RCPs, slab set outs... etc.

So for Floor Plans we need to see both skins
On RCPs we would like the exterior cladding (finish) made invisible and in the slab set out we would ideally only see the 90mm framing (core) as we don't need the "finish" to be visible.

Does anyone know how I can set this up correctly?

Thanks in advance

If you need to control the internal and external skins separately then you will need to make one a 'finish' type and the other an 'other' type.
So you will have 'core', 'finish' and 'other' for your three skins.
Then you can control those with your Partial Structure Display.

That's brilliant Barry.

That's exactly what I needed.

Can I ask you another composites question?

When it comes to internal openings, (not door objects) the "finish" does not wrap itself around the 3 sides of the wall so when I insert an opening into a wall, the finish looks broken... as though you can then see the inside skin, AKA the core finish...

Do you know of a way to fix this? image attached.

You can use the 'Wall End' tool to wrap the skins around.
This only works at the end of a wall - not for openings made with the door or window tools - even if they are empty openings.
For openings the skin wrapping has to be scripted into the object - some may have it and some won't.

In v19 UKI there is a rectangular opening which will allow return of the outer skins. I know there are international variations but have a look in the library under 1.2 Doors 19 > Empty door openings 19, it is such a basic requirement you may have the part in the AUS version.

Thanks DGSketcher.

Another "composites" issue I've come across...

I can't get 2 different composites to 'merge' their core.

Refer to image attached.

You will see that the corner junction near where the bath tub is, has 2 different composites.

they both have a 10mm "finish" skin, and a 140mm "core" skin...
the "finish" on the other side is different of course as one of these walls is internal and one is external.

It is the 140mm "core" skin that I wish would merge, and not leave a solid line between them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check your Building Materials strength.
I am guessing that you 140mm core has a weaker strength than your 10mm skin.
So the skin is merging and the core is too weak to penetrate through.

It could also be because the reference lines of the external walls are on the outside.
Try moving them to the inside to see if that helps.
