joseph-
at the autocad commandline, type "ps" or "tilemode=0" or use the menus to select a paperspace view of your model. my guess is that AutoCAD opened the file in model space.

8.1 can view paper space.
Open any drawing or a blank document and set the floor plan scale at 1 to 1. Select and open the DWG. In the translator, under the "Settings in Selected Translator" section, select "Open Options" and you will see the options under Import Drawing Data From. Select "Paper space with Viewport Contents" and open. The drawing will then open in "Paper Space" with the sizes in the drawing at a 1 to 1 scale with the plot sheet for your review.
Hope this helps.
