Generating sections

When generating a cross section in Archicad 12 all I hear is a 'ding' and a blank page in the section window. No generated section. What am I doing wrong. Thanks..

have you checked the horizontal and vertical range settings in the section dialog box?

The dialog box shows infinite for both Horiz and Vert ranges and All for show on stories. Status is Auto rebuild. The only way out I have found is by opening up a drawing that has an auto build section that works and paste my drawing into it...
