How to stretch multiple grid elements at once?

Wlad222

I need to adjust the lengths of multiple grid lines simultaneously.

Typically, I would use the marquee tool for such tasks, but it seems ineffective for grid line adjustments.Given the number of grid lines involved, manually adjusting each one is not feasible. I am seeking a more efficient method or workaround to accomplish this task.

Your guidance on how to adjust the grid lines collectively would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance and support.

@Rubia Torres Can someone at Archicad look into this? This seems like a super basic thing but no one is willing to reply. Tagging you because of the Archicad badge...

@Wlad222

First, Archicad is a product, Graphisoft is a company... so you are looking presumably for a reply from Graphisoft, not Archicad.

Second, you're upset that nobody replied in one day?  It often takes a week to get replies here... which are from your fellow users.  If you want a response from Graphisoft... you need to contact your local Technical Support.  This is not a technical support Community, but a user-to-user forum.

It is helpful if you state what version and build of Archicad you are using.  We have no idea from your post... Is it 18?  27?  And Windows 3001 is meaningless... is that Windows 11?  If the 3001 is an Archicad build... then it is not a current update as that would be the initial installation version.

Finally, please do not tag random people such as Rubia, demanding an answer.  You will either get a response, or you will not.  But, again, if you want to be sure to get a response, contact technical support. 🙂

I just tested this with a thin marquee... and all grid lines whose hotspots are included in the marquee stretch as they should.   I'm not sure why this isn't working for you.  My platform info is in my signature..

I am absolutely appalled by the dismissive and condescending tone of your message.

It's infuriating that in a community owned by Graphisoft, there is such a lack of support from the company itself. With all the money Graphisoft is hoarding, it's downright shameful that no one from the company is present to assist the very users who keep their business afloat. Your suggestion that it's unreasonable to expect a response within a day is completely unacceptable. Users should not be left waiting for a week to receive help from fellow users, especially when Graphisoft could easily step in to provide the necessary support. This isn't just a user-to-user forum; it's a community that deserves active engagement and assistance from the company that profits from it. Furthermore, telling users to contact local Technical Support is a cop-out. Graphisoft should take responsibility for ensuring that their community is well-supported. It's not just about technical support; it's about creating a supportive environment where users feel valued and heard. The lack of direct involvement from Graphisoft is a glaring oversight, and it's high time they step up and do something to help the community.

I don't know what you did but according to HELP it is not possible...

  • Columns, Objects and Lamps cannot be stretched with the Marquee. If any of their hotspots fall inside the Marquee area, the whole object/column will be dragged along when the Marquee area is repositioned.

I guess grid objects fall under Object category. It's absolutely baffling and infuriating that in 2024, a supposedly advanced architectural software like Archicad still lacks the basic functionality to stretch Objects using the Marquee tool. This is an essential feature that should have been implemented years ago. Consistency is a fundamental principle in software design, serving as the backbone for creating user-friendly and reliable applications.

As I pointed out, the grid stretches perfectly with the marquee tool.

Update: Not able to reproduce marquee stretching... grid elements only move in response to marquee.

If you are having a problem, either post more details here or contact tech support who will work with you.

Hi @Karl Ottenstein,

I tried that solution you suggested by thin & bold marquee but it really doesn’t stretch the grid line, it’s only dragged.

I think you can retry applying that solution and kindly illustrate by a short video (if possible).

“Any Grid elements can be stretched with Pet palette commands: select the Grid Element, then choose the Stretch icon. Select a Grid element. Click on the editing hotspot which represents the staggered part of the Grid marker, and then drag the Marker, together with the staggering length, to a new position.”

I don’t use grids but you can try and multi select all grid elements and then use the pet pallet stretch command to see if it will stretch all of them at once for you ?

You can't with the original Archicad.  Need plugins.  In China, there is a plugin named BIMOM, can do this stretch function.
