Linear Dimensions in the 3D Document Window

Using Archicad v12 I'm not able to use the dimension tool in the 3D window because it is grey-ed out.
The manual says I should be able to however.
Could anyone assist please ?

You can't do 2D annotations directly in the live 3D window. You need to make a 3D document, which, while still live 3D, is a fixed viewpoint which allows the 2D to make sense.

The only way to annotate in 3D is with library parts that have a 3D component for the purpose.
