Well, maybe the best thing to do would be to ask the client of what their requirements are for each.
When our office was doing residential building here is how we did it:
The ID of Zones belonging to the same apartment were set to the same value. This helped in listing them. E.g. Apartment number "A-13" meant that it was in Staircase A, First floor and third apartment on that Floor.
Within one apartment we had an order for numbering Zones. Numbering went from 01 to whatever number was needed, normally till 08 or 10 or 12, depending on the number of rooms in the apartment.
The order was something similar:
Living Room
Room(s)
Kitchen
Diner
Bathroom(s)
Garderobe(s)
Toilet(s)
Passage(s)
Balcony(ies)
This way the ID and Zone Number of any individual Zone in a building was always unique.
The IDs of Doors and Windows always came later based on the Door/Window Schedules. Maybe exterior Window numbers went from A01 to A10/A20/A30 depending on the number of different types and configurations.
Interior Windows started with B01.
Exterior Doors started with C01.
Interior Doors started with D01.
And so on...
You can create any type of numbering system as long as it is working for you.
