lock a single layer in ALL layer combinations?

Is there a way to lock a single layer in ALL layer combinations without having to open each combination manually?

I'm looking for fast ways of editing layers and layer combinations. Datum lines and grid lines for example. I would like to set them, then lock them in every layer combination.

You can lock (Edit->Locking->Lock) the object and that will work across all Layers.

Open the layer dialog box; select the layer(s) you want to lock; in the layer combinations, select lock next to which combinations you want selected layer(s) to be locked in - no need to press update, just ok.
Also works for visibility, hairline view and priority settings).
