problem viewing old .LAY files

OK. Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but shouldn't one be able to open (in PMv9) a .LAY file created in PMv2.3 or 3.1 and see the layout with all of its information?

The files I'm working with are old jobs - all the links have been broken so the .pmk's are embedded in the layout.

I've made sure that the drawing settings are set to show full preview (not frame only), and I've looked for other settings and preferences that might affect it, but I'm obviously missing something. All I get are boxes with big "x"'s through them like there's no data to read.

Can anyone clue me in?

Thanks
Wes

The x'd files represent a linked drawing that was stored in the model file that created it. The link needs to be updated and then the file will rebuild and show correctly.

Wes:

Have you tried opening the file with PlotMaker 2.3 (ArchiCAD 7) or PlotMaker 3.1 (ArchiCAD 8.1) to see if the drawings are embedded? I just tried opening a PlotMaker 2.3 file in PlotMaker 2.3 and Plotmaker 9.0 and the drawings show in both cases.
