v10 Publishing Auto-Update Drawings Failing

I have just found that publishing layouts containing auto-update drawings causes publisher to fail every single time. It appears this is due to a time out caused when AC opens the drawings on the layouts being published to check/update. Even if the drawings have been checked and updated immediately prior to publishing AC still insists on going through this checking process again (despite the fact that you want to publish what you can see now, not whatever unseen changes AC is out looking for)

Manual update drawings do not have this problem as AC doesn't check their status when publishing.

This isn't a problem for us as all drawings are set to manual update for safety, but I do find it interesting as it does seem to make auto-update drawings useless as they cannot be published - has anyone else come across this? Does anyone use auto-update drawings over manual update anyway?
cheers,

Interesting. I regard auto-update as the 'safe' option - it ensures current documentation.
I have not had any problems with publishing sets containg layouts with auto-updated drawings.
But I do think the process should be faster when all links are internal, as long as the whole project isn't too big to be contained in the machine's internal memory.

True automatic does mean you always get the current state of the model updating on your layouts. I guess we just find it reassuring sometimes that our layout contents are manually updated when we want them to, not when AC wants to. I can think of several times when details have gone missing and copying them back in from Plotmaker (i know ...) was the only way to save hours of re-work. Archicad could have automatically updated these with empty drawings ...

[Edit:] It is also seems to be much quicker to work in a layout book when AC isn't constantly checking drawing status as you change pages.

We still get fails when publishing auto-update drawings. From the sound of it your layouts are in the same PLN as the model? Ours are 2 separate files which could be the issue - it does take much longer to update drawings this way and perhaps it is too long for publisher?
