How to Enable Dark Mode in Archicad

By default, Archicad 29 is set to Match my device, meaning it will follow your macOS system settings. If your Mac is in Dark Mode, Archicad will be too.

To manually control Archicad’s appearance:

  • Go to Options > Work Environment > Appearance, where you can choose from:
    • Light
    • Dark
    • Match my device

Alternatively, if you set Archicad to Match my device, you can set your macOS to Dark Mode by going to:

  • Apple-Logosu.png> System Settings > Appearance, then select Dark.

Tips To Improve Visibility in Dark Mode (Optional)

To enhance readability while using Dark Mode in Archicad, consider these settings:

  • Set a Dark Background
Go to View > Grid & Editing Plane Options > Grids & Background, and choose a dark color for the background. You can also adjust the Grid Lines for better contrast.

  • Enable Automatic Pen Visibility Adjustment
Navigate to Options > Work Environment > On-Screen Options, and activate the Automatic Pen Color Visibility Adjustment for Model Views option.

  • Use a Custom Pen Set
If you prefer not to use the automatic adjustment, you can create a custom Pen Set with higher contrast:
Go to Documentation > Pen Sets > Pens & Colors (Model).

NOTE: Dark Mode is only available for macOS users, as it is an Operating-system-dependent feature in Archicad.

In Archicad versions 24–28, the experimental Dark Mode feature must be enabled under Options > Work Environment > More Options > Experimental Features by activating the Enable System Appearance option.
