Tip of the Month, July 2024: Master angled beam ends on Floor Plan views

If you've ever wondered how to present a beam with an angled start/end in a Floor Plan view, @Patrick M can give you a hint.

Read on to learn a modeling strategy that fits beams to any angle on either a vertical or horizontal plane.

What’s the trick?

Start by modeling a Beam in a Floor Plan view, then offset the reference line to the edge of the beam.

Set the overhead Projection Mode, under Floor Plan and Section, to “projected”. That will allow you to view the angled cut at the start/end of the beam.

Depending on which plane you want to see the slanted cut, keep the beam at a 0-degree rotation angle or rotate it 90 degrees. You can then set the angle of the cut either in the Beam Selection Settings dialog (A) or in the Floor Plan/3D view directly by clicking on the hotspot (B).

Option AOption A

Option BOption B

That’s it! Just as you would cut a beam vertically, you can do so horizontally as well simply by rotating the element.

Thank you to @Patrick M for sharing a solution to @StefanV_BCP’s question. If you’d like to give them a kudo for bringing up this topic, head on over to this forum post.

See you next month with another technical tip!
