Apple File System (APFS) volumes cannot be shared over Apple Filing Protocol (AFP)

Issue

The installation of macOS 10.13 High Sierra (on SSD) and macOS 10.14 Mojave (on SSD, Fusion Drive, HDD) replaces the existing HFS+ file system to APFS. Using APFS file system, a folder cannot be shared with AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) because it has been deprecated by Apple. Folders can only be shared using SMB (Server Message Block) or NFS (Network File System). By default File Sharing (set up in System Preferences - > Sharing) is now done using the SMB protocol.

Workaround

Use SMB file sharing protocol on the server computer and have network drives mounted automatically by the OS on the client computer. To do this follow the steps below: 1) On the server computer Share a folder using the 'System Preferences -> Sharing menu'. Under the 'Options...' check the 'Share files and folders using SMB'. Note that regardless the state that AFP is not working, it is still visible in this dialog.

2) On the client computers, mount the shared folder using CMD - K in the Finder (Connect to Server). 3) Mount the folder automatically using the 'Users & Groups -> Login Items' menu. In addition to the mentionned setting, uncheck the 'Prevent macOS from automatically mounting server volumes' option in the  ARCHICAD Work Environment dialog under the Network and Update panel.

4) Although ARCHICAD recognizes if the Sharing Protocol has changed during a Drawing Update if the server is mounted automatically, it is highly recommended to relink the placed drawings manually in the Drawing Manager by using the 'smb://' prefix to prevent performance issues.
