Archicad 17 Painfully Slow

Even for basic 2d work. Am using a Windows 7 (64 bit) Toshiba laptop, first generation I7 (1.6 ghz), NVIDIA GeForce 310M (512 mb) video card with only 4 gb memory. Works fine for AC 15 and AC16, but crawls to a near stop with the same file in AC17. I think the maximum memory for my machine is 8 gb. Any hope for better performance with a memory upgrade or would that just be putting lipstick on a pig?

Have any of you tried turning the autosave from ultra high to autosave every 5 or 20 minutes?

I noticed my disc write rates go astronomically high with the auto save switched to ultra and I intermittently get the bog back in 3d...
When I go to 5 minute save it is much better...

Noticed the writing is all to the AC Autosave folder on my C drive. Multiple instances open seem to create a logjam and exacerbate the issue greatly...

My CPU and RAM all are absolutely flat lined during the bogging behavior but disc activity is intense....

The SSD greatly improved things but I still can't toggle the Autosave Ultra High without risking slowdown due the to disc write bottleneck.

Yes but that didn't help.

For me it's more the waiting between hoovering over an object,
waiting for the highlight to kick in,
clicking the object,
waiting for selection nodes to appear,

moving to next object,
waiting for the highlight to kick in,
clicking the object,
waiting for selection nodes to appear,

If you're to quick Archicad goes marquee and you have to start over or you select the wrong item.
It's more of a display delay issue I think.

Sorry it didn't work for you.

I was having the same exact issue until I swapped my drive.
Now my 3d window is real time instead of 2 second or much more lag...
I had gotten so used to the lag... I think it was causing brain damage.

I went so far as to switch my nvidia card with an amd card to see if that made any difference. It didn't. I've tried every driver for the GPU...

Strange thing is my laptop has no lag at all in 3d and not nearly as fast a machine as my desktop. ???

So I started keeping the windows resource monitor up on my second monitor to try an pinpoint the load... For some reason AC is putting a huge load on the C drive. Pretty much write only. Sometimes millions of bits per second of write... No other running software comes close to that kind of load. Almost all the load is associated with the backup folder.
With the constant backup turned off loads go to normal levels. Couple / few thousand bits per second.

Now things are working. Drive must have been bottle necking my CPU. I have had the CPU cranked up to 4.8Ghz and it didn't make a difference until the SSD drive was installed. Now things are flying.

I can slow it down if I turn on the auto backup though. Or...

*** If I have 2+ instances open it all goes haywire turns out... First instance gets extremely laggy (back to the 2 second plus wait in 3d) but then seems to stabilize after a bit... The second instance never gets laggy. CPU use for the first instance goes way up for awhile, then stabilizes.
Strange goings on in ArchiCODE...
