Archicad file created glitch + Very slow network connections

Glitch we have with Archicad files on our Macs using ACad 7 & 8.1 from our new Windows 2000 server:

All our .PLN files have defaulted to say they were all created on Friday 1st January 1904 at 12.00 am.
We are able to open the files and work on them from the server but when we try and save them the following message appears. "Cannot save Plan file. File not found".
If we then try and save again the file is saved correctly. This happens every time we save.

Also regarding the "1st January 1904 at 12.00 am" issue, if we create a job and save it to our Mac desktops the date the file was created is as it should be. But, when we copy the file onto the server the file then says it was created on the 1st January 1904 at 12.00 am even though it wasn't???

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?, date/time issue with Archicad and the server?, macs and the server?

It sounds like a network problem. My last experience with mixed networks with a Windows server was using Windows NT, but I have shared files between macs and Windows 2000 workstations with no problem. I assume it is something in the server setup.

BTW: If you are using Mac workstations why didn't you get an Xserve? They are price competitive with equivalent Windows machines and OSX Server is a piece of cake to administer.

I don't care how fast your workstation or server is.... if the best you have is a 100mbs network... your probably going to have a very slow linking/update in plotmaker. We have an Xserve and 100mbs network with G4 700 workstation. They could not over come the network. We moved the Plotmaker file and AC8.1 file to our workstation to do the update/linking. It would usually time out.
Hence, the workstation processor upgrade to a 1.4GHZ G4 @ $550 (Encore is the mfg.). With the same file (LBK & PLN) on our now super fast machine. Upating is a snap. No time outs. We can even use the UPDATE ALL button. Life is good again. Time outs are still a good chance across the network. At the end of the day...we save LBK & PLN files back to the server.
Now if we can just get the files that publisher produces to use the NUMBERING, as well as, the NAMES of the layout sheets. We should all be screeming about this one!

PS. We have 2 PC's and 9 MAC's connecting to our Xserve, which actually uses the logic of NT. No glitches and a big plus...you don't pay by the user as you do with NT .
