Building new workstation for A12

I'm on a somewhat tight budget, but this is what I'm buying from Newegg:

Intel Q6600 Core2Duo (2.4GHz quad-core)
Gigabyte G31 Motherboard
4x2GB G.Skill DDR2-800 (8GB total)
Decent PSU, case, DVD/RW, etc.
All for under $500 shipped.

I already have a license for Vista Ultimate 64-bit and a NVIDIA 7950GT that I'm planning to use. I've got a whole mess of hard drives to use as well. I'm thinking of overclocking the Q6600 to 3.2GHz or so - I've read that's an easy speed to reach without getting crazy with extra cooling required - the motherboard I chose is supposed to be good for that.

Will this setup perform well with A12? Any other suggestions?

Sounds like it will do the job very well.
My setup is similar but I only have a core 2 duo but it is at 3.2 and flies. A quad should be faster, I have yet to try that.
My cpu is water cooled and manages to get a bit too hot on hundred degree days (no ac). When ambient temps are reasonable it stays really cool.

With 8 gigs of ram and all the processing power Vista should work great.
I have never had a single problem with vista on my machine or my wife's machine with a similar setup.

I have had crashes now and then since I upgraded to AC12. I never did with AC11. Hoping the first hotfix will make things a bit more stable. Also a bit buggy in the 3d explore mode. Seems to crash when I am listening to my local radio via windows media player and working in 3d. Dunno, not very often.

Newegg pretty much rocks and the reviews are very helpful as far as picking motherboards.

Sounds like fun, enjoy.

Thanks Greg! After 240+ views and no responses, I was getting a little worried! 😉

I would say that it'll be great in ArchiCAD 12. My quad-core generates elevation views in half the time that dual-cores with higher clock-speeds do.

off-topic @g.h.design. Are you seriously from Bonny Doon? How's the serenity?
