Buying Archicad on ebay?

Anonymous
Not applicable
There is currently a full version of archicad 8.0 for sale on ebay...Auction ends @6pm tonight. I was the high bidder @ $700. An eBay member emailed me and said that I should be careful to make sure that it was a licensed copy. Fortunately somebody outbid me.

Can anybody give some advice on this situation?

I am currently a Chief Architect user but there are a lot of "work arounds" to produce elevations & cross sections for working drawings.

Thanks

"Couries could cost as much. The books are heavy. "

Thanks for the info Djordje.

You need to ask if they are willing to transfer the license and key. I purchased a older version of ArchiCAD and paid $495 for license transfer, plus $890 for version 8.0. All in all, I saved about $900 versus buying a new version. Was worth it for me.. I spent the savings on add-ons!

AFAIK the key IS the license. If you own the key you should have the right to get a license transfer. The only exception would be if the seller is somehow not a properly licensed owner. Of course GS is the final word on this.

The seller is in Norway and hasn't responded to my emails so I have no way of knowing. $700 would be a great price if it had the key and manuals...but who would sell it that cheap if it were legit?

It is too expensive if it is not. Besides, it might be in Norwegian - and at the very least, it is International version, not the US one with all the bells and whistles you guys get for half the European price ...

Couries could cost as much. The books are heavy.

If you want to purchase an old license (all are upgradeable) post an ad in Ads forum.

If you are ever unsure about buying a second hand copy, call the local graphisoft reseller and check with them. The seller should have a hardware key, and the hardware key will be registered with the reseller. If not... it could be an illegal version, or an educational version which has restricted funtionality.
