Is new MacBook Pro fast enough?

Will this be fast enough for AC 11 (AC 12) and Artlantis studio 2. I currently run AC 8.1 on a Toshiba laptop (or is that notebook?) P25-S609 and I want to make a switch to AC 11 on a 17" 2.6ghz MacBook pro. I would appreciate any advice thanks.
Have you seen the light?
AC 12, AC14, win 7, Hp pavillion dv6 2.4Ghz, 4gb Ram

ArchiTalkers:

Does anyone have any experience and/or opinions about the display options:

Glossy or antiglare (matte)?

Thanks for your input.

Prefer Matte, though I have not heard any complains from people using the shinny ones.

Still wondering if 2 gb RAM is enough to run AC11 (or 12 ), Preview & Piranesi, only or I should go for 4 gb of RAM?
Thanks,
Joseph

Get the 4. The extra cost of doing it at computer buying time overwhelms the inconvenience of doing it later with the almost certain need for it within two years.

After years of swanky mac denial, I am liking that glossy surface over the satin and would get it next time - much less glare in airports than i thought -after envying fellow travelers.

Actually I got min a month a go and with 2 gig RAM and Mat screen which yesterday I got it to an Authorize repair center to change the screen to glossy foe $225 and all new 4 gig RAM I just foun out for $180. If this $ helps the speed it is a go?
Thanks,

It is too late to change the screen. Satin is fine.

Get insurance instead and leave it on your table at Starbucks and go to the men's room. Then order one with a glossy screen and four gigulons.

Mac only: For anyone wondering if they have enough ram or not:

Open the Activity Monitor. Ask Archicad to render. Observe the disk read/write and the ram gauge. [And the processor gauge just for fun]

If the RAM use hits the ceiling, more ram weill help speed. 2 Gb is probably not enough altho i have never had Archicad go over 1.9Gb in total, but that means nothing else is available to run the machine.

If Archicad runs out of ram, it swaps the stored data to disk. Slow, especially on a laptop.

Frankly - you should have Artlantis 2.0 - New marketing slogan "Artlantis 2.0: you you you!!"

As for quickness drafting and rebuilding the plan view - this is a video task, along with navigating the model in OpenGL - more CPU ram won't help. Is there a larger video option in the new machine?

It is not too late, they have order the part and waiting for a day or two...

Artlantis's Skech Rendering does not do the job and also waiting for the Master to put the ink on the canvas & get it to us.

MacBook Pro is at the shop for the face lift, no info on your last question.

As for the speed hoping for a Tesler speed with the 4 Gig Ram they are both Computer Battery Driven).

anyone out there running the newest version of the 17" mbp? the 2.6ghz dual core, w/ high rez lcd backlite screen w/ nvida 8600gt 512mb video.
ready for an upgrade here and some of the 512 video card models are finally showing up on apple refurb shop.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=MTE3NjY&nclm=CertifiedM...
also considering the 15" version. all the 15" new models have the lcd backlite screen, just not hi rez. also 512 vid available, for $600 savings.

Wait until after WWDC even though it probably is going to be iPhone related mostly, it is recommended to avoid buying Apple equipment prior to a "Major" Event.

great recommendation! that is why i am trying to time my purchase around wwdc and sj keynote so it overlaps the 2 week apple return policy.
been waiting quite a while for an update to mbp, not sure when there will be a redesign. plus i think my aging powerbook is getting tired out!
still wondering about the glossy vs non glare. the glossy screen looks great, maybe even too saturated, apple retail in abq, nm suggests non glare for graphics / design. i thought side by side comparison glossy looks a bit more glarey from side viewing angles.
thanks!
