Lots and lots of Mac crashes (OSX)

Over the last month or two, some of our users have been experiencing a lot of ArchiCAD 8.1 crashes. We have 11 active users all running Mac OS X 10.3.4 and for the most part ArchiCAD 8.1.0 v2 USA (2256). I didn't see the Hot Fix, but have since downloaded 2284.

Three of our users have been crashing about 4 times a day. They've lost work at times. They have had shared models not show changes that were sent the day before. The hours are really adding up.

Have others experienced this?

If so, is 2284 going to help alot?

All projects are kept on a file server (OS X Server 10.2.x) and if it weren't for tape backup, I think I would have posted much earlier. 2284 is going in over the weekend, but I don't believe that alone will solve this problem.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I am currently working with Graphisoft support in Hungary on this. I'll post more as I know it.

I feel your pain! I have just switched our office over to macs and have been having all kinds of trouble. We have 5 Dual 2.5 G5 machines running AC 8.1 v2 (2284). archicad has crashed a lot. We first crashed every time we tried to print to the HP 800 PS. Solved that problem only to find that we crash every time we try to share a project. I called support and have not heard back from them yet. We are a small firm and the down time is killing us.
I am still trying to forget the nightmare that was V8. My advice wasn't requested in this regard, but V9 is SO much better, that I can't believe a firm would try to save $600 in exchange for the misery that V8 is capable of. I'll bet that you've already wasted more in lost fees than the upgrade would have cost. And the longer you delay upgrading, the higher that potential cost is.

You really should consider upgrading to AC9 and dumping 8.1. (Just my opinion.)

Richard is 110% correct. Really 110%... We've run ArchiCAD on Macs since version 4.5. We installed v8 and v8.1 but eventually went back to v7 due to the performance problems with v8 on the Mac. We ate the upgrade costs and held out until v9. No regrets at all. Migrate as soon as you can. Graphisoft did a very admirable job on the Mac side with Version 9.

Best of luck.
