surfaces

there are lots of unused surfaces, such as Helland comfort, Innvik Text strips LHL ___ . they just take up space and are unusable. Why are they in there?

They sound like 3rd party surfaces, possibly from objects in your embedded library.

Open a default Graphisoft template and see what is in there.

If you open the Library Manager Dialog and check your Embedded Library (or Linked Libraries as well) you may find files the names of which start with MASTER_GDL... These files are always executed when a file is opened or the libraries are reloaded. And these files may contain GDL commands that created many of those Surfaces you see.

You would have to get rid of those MASTER_GDL files, then remove all those unnecessary Surfaces to get rid of them.
