Mac - AC resets when launching

I've posted this query a few times - am I the only one experiencing this phenomenon? If I am, how can I fix it?

Since I received 8.0 in Dec 2002, AC resets some pallet shapes, [computer] window sizes, preferences etc. every time I launch it. It's a few minutes out of my day to re-reset, but annoying nonetheless.

I hoped, with every new patch/version/upgrade that the problem would be fixed but to no avail. I have upgraded computers and operating systems as well, but the problem persists. I have tried many fixes and workarounds. For example, to negate the possiblilty that older files were corrupting AC, I created a startup template, beginning with AC's default settings - that didn't work either.

Am I missing something? It is difficult and embarrasing to continue to promote AC to my clients when I can't manage to start the application properly.

AC 8.1 2256/OS 10.3.3/G5/1 gig RAM

I have had only very rare problems with spontaneous palette relocation since the 8.1 upgrade (there were a lot in 8.0). Maybe you should try a clean reinstall.

I do wish ArchiCAD would store the settings for my internal and external monitors so I wouldn't have to move the info palette and resize my windows twice daily.

it sounds as though you have some corrupt preferences, or more seriously, incorrect permissions on you home folder for archiCAD to write its preferences when quitting.

clean out all of the information from these folders and try again. check also that archiCAD has written new preferences back into these folders after you have set you workspace and quit archiCAD.

  • <yourharddisk>/Users/<yourhomefolder>/Library/Caches/Graphisoft/<all of this folders contents>
  • <yourharddisk>/Users/<yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences/<all files beginning "com.graphisoft...">
  • <yourharddisk>/Users/<yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences/Graphisoft/<all of this folders contents>
there are a couple more insignificant stragglers too, but the above should be enough!

this might seem a bit severe, but i do this when i'm scratching my head over possible preference troubles and at each new archiCAD version install! it's the only way i know of ensuring a completely clean slate. in fact, you should probably try a completely clean install as matthew suggested after you have deleted these preferences . . .

Suddenly, now my pallets refuse to stay put. I have cleaned out the preferences and they still move to one monitor. This really stinks. I have a cool setup with dual 17" flat screen monitors, but AC insists on putting all of the pallets on one screen.
