MacBook Pro to Mac Pro

I am currently using a MacBook Pro 15.4" 2.33GHZ and I am considering moving to the Latest MacPro. I know there will be performance improvments, but I would like to know if anyone can give me some advice on where to concentrate the upgrades. Does the video card from 256 to 512mb or more make a great bit of difference?

Is this worth the move?

Thanks.

I went from a G5 with 256 Mb to a MacPro with that 512 card

The new machine goes faster but whether it is the faster processor or the xtra RAM or the 512 card - can't say.

I have the 512 card to drive up to 2, 30" displays. This is a factor for the larger card. How many pixels will you drive?

It does let me navigate large OpenGL views smoothly but no science on that, just a feeling.

I have the 30" Cinema Display that I run as a main monitor in my office, then I just use the MBP elsewhere.

The biggest area that I want to see speed increases are the elevation regeneration and rendering time.

I just want to know of the MacPro (8 core) will make some significant impact.

It will be a lot faster.

You will get another dimension working with a MacPro

That would be time... the elusive 4th dimension in the architectural field.

But it is an illusion of time compression - because with a faster computer things don't get done any faster, it just seems that way.

Faster computer = bigger renderings in the same time, not smaller renderings faster.

Of course is you put an architect in a sealed box does he/she work at all....

Are those snoring noises we hear?

If an architect draws in the forest, and there is no one there to see, do his screams make a sound?
