Monitor glitch: Sides Squishy

I've got a 21" Apple Display that I came back to in the middle of the day yesterday and everything that appears at the left and right edges (about an inch or so) of the screen is compressed. The middle 90% of the screen appears fine. The compression is not too extreme, but just enough to be annoying. Can't find any info in Apple's Knowledgebase or discussion boards. Anyone have any ideas?

A 21" display must be a CRT right? And a fairly old one?

The problem sounds like it requires internal adjustment (I assume you have tried any of the SW or HW adjustments that are user accessible).

The cost of repairs may exceed the value of the monitor. It may be time to look into a new Cinema Display.

Hi, Matthew. Right on all accounts--CRT, "old" (in computer life--like dog years), and I've fiddled with the adjustments. Dwight wrote and said that the monitor's power supply is failing or the magnets have slipped. I thanked him for giving me an excuse to go out and buy a new LCD screen

Problem solved! I changed the refresh rate from 75 Hz to 90 Hz, realigned the geometry, and all is normal again. I really did want and excuse to buy a new Cinema Display though

Dave,

It still sounds like your monitor may be on the way out (I'm trying to help you out here). And, the big LCDs are also big productivity enhancers, so the sooner you switch the sooner it will start paying for itself. Besides, they are MUCH easier on the eyes resulting in even more savings in better health and lower doctor's bills. What's more, chicks really dig guys with big... LCDs.

I use a 23" (it's great) so you'll have to ask Dwight about the big three ohhh!
