It can be done, but you will be working with all the windows as, well, windows, not maximized.
I tried it a while and got lower back pains from sitting weirdly, so I just use the 2nd screen (2 screen setup) for outlook, PDF docs, and some lesser used palettes/dialogs like SEO, render settings, complex profile.
If you have a Nvidia card, you can use a program that allows you to subdivide your screen in predefined zones and quickly switch programs from one screen to another. It doesn't behave too well with ArchiCAD for me (it crashes), but all other programs work well with it.
