You can make sure your textures have an alpha channel and that this alpha channel is used as a bump map in Options>Materials>Edit Texture...>Alpha Channel Effects. I described this technique a long time ago on the old escribe ArchiCAD-Talk: http://www.escribe.com/software/archicadtalk/m25778.html

Of course it helps if you have PhotoShop! If you don't - you may want to consider getting it. It will also help with your repetitive grass texture. Add a little Filter>Noise>Add Noise>(about 2-5%) and it will make that lawn look less like a cricket pitch.

Looking at your render, you also need to match the size of your background image to the size of your render. Do this by matching the size & dpi of your background 'Picture' with your 'Resulting Image' in the Image>Photorendering Settings>Image Size & Background... dialog. Using the Show Image/Picture radio buttons will help you visualize this.
