Protection Key problem with version 6.5

Anonymous
Not applicable
I recently ran into a problem with an older version of ArchiCAD, version 6.5, when it stopped working stating that the protection key was not responding. The parallel key works fine on other machines but no matter what key I try, this machine won't run the program. It starts AutoCAD 6.5 and then immediately states that it the protection key is not responding.

I looked at other posts to this type of problem and have tried changing the parallel settings in bios to ECP and EPP but it still doesn't recognize the key. I have done a complete uninstall and reinstall as well as install the newest version of the driver but nothing seems to work.

The computer is a P4 Dell with 512 mbs of RAM and 40 gig hard drive. Any help is greatly appreciated....

Have you tried running a diagnostic on the parallel port itself?
Does the OS recognize and verify that the port is working properly?

Is a printer connected over the protection key? If yes, it has to be on or off all the time.

Check whether a printer is working - in fact, I had a case once when the LPT port was turned off in BIOS.
