QuickTime 7.1.5 crashes ArchiCAD 10 on Mac OS X 10.3

A recent upgrade of QuickTime (7.1.5) causes ArchiCAD to crash in various circumstances on Mac OS X 10.3. We strongly recommend not to install this QuickTime update. Once installed, it can not be down-graded or removed. The only known solution to remove QuickTime 7.1.5 is a complete system reinstall. Mac OS X 10.4 is not affected by the problem. ArchiCAD 9 and earlier versions are also not affected. We have reported the problem to Apple. Updates on this topic (possible solution to uninstall QuickTime) will be posted on ArchicadWiki: http://www.archicadwiki.com/Bugs/QuickTime_crash_on_MAC_OSX_10.3

It seems that others are having problems, but at least somebody has found a solution to make the 7.1.3 installer work over the installed 7.1.5:

The QT 7.1.3 installer which I archived wouldn't work, saying I already had a newer version. However, Pacifist, which can open installer packages, can also force an installation of the package components in their default locations. I tried that (a very slow process) and it worked. Both programs mentioned above started working again. However, the web browsers still couldn't handle QuickTime graphics. But the Pacifist installation also tricked the QT 7.1.3 installer into running again and after it did, the web browsers functioned properly too.
We have not tried this yet..

For those that did not have an archived version of 7.1.3, I found this link. All others took me to 7.1.5 downloads.

also a good source of info is

Down loaded Pacifist. It appears to be worth its $20.00. Ran it and installed 7.1.3 over 7.1.5 which left the system with some menu bar glitches (Spotlight icon blinking, missing icons) and Quicktime crashing. Then down loaded and ran Combo updater 10.4.8. All appears to be normal now.

Did not have to reinstall system using the above method.

Upon further review....

Of course if I had paid any real attention, I would not have done any of the above since I have 10.4 installed. Maybe it will help someone. My keeper just came in to remind me its time for my nap.

I have downloaded Pacifist and 7.1.3 quicktime, but am not sure how to get Pacifist to overwrite 7.1.5. Can someone offer some help in this regard?

I can't really imagine running 10.3 when 10.4 is soooooo much better. Rather than reinstall, why not just upgrade? You will be happy you did.

With Leopard (10.5) coming out in "the spring" it would be wise to wait until then. When is spring in USA anyway? Anyone familar with Jobs-speak?

Typically Apple Spring is mid May to June 20th. And they have released on the last day of spring before.
