Slow in Plan Views

My Archicad 12 file is extremely slow when I go to my plan views. (5 minutes to zoom for example) My 3D views and elevations/sections are just fine.

I have a ton of curtain wall, and a complex curved building. My Poly Count is around 128,000 and my level of detail is set to simple. This happens on my G4 work computer, as well as my zippier home PC with adequate specs.

I don't know if it is coincidence, but this seemed to happen after I hot linked another file. However, I have since deleted that hot link.

??? And yes, of course I am approaching a deadline...uhhg

The problem must have to do with the curtain wall. If I delete it, my file is okay...

We recommend to use the Symbolic Floorplan Display instead of the Projected one. Projected is always generating the 3D first. So in case you have many curtain walls the 2D rebuild will take a long time.

Both those cards are 6-7 years old and are now fairly underpowered. I suspect that is the main reason for the poor performance.

Have you tried playing with the 'Advanced Redraw Options' in the Work Environment profile? There is a slider bar that sets the level of 2d hardware acceleration. Try less or more acceleration and see what happens. You could also try setting the model to 'Structural Contours Only' which simplifies what is displayed when panning/zooming.

Maybe it's time for a new machine!

yes, i have tweaked the advanced redraw settings and every setting i could possibly find to simplify.

hopefully we can get some new machines here soon
