Special Snap Option only allows Half

Scott Bulmer
Booster
Using AC14 build 3477 I am only able to use the selection Half in the Special Snap Option located in the Standard Toolbar. Selecting any other choice will always revert back to Half. I have New & Reset All without luck. Please confirm this is a bug or if there is a workaround. Thanks, Scott
AC27 v. 4060 w/ MEP, Cadimage, Twinmotion 2023.2.2 using AC from AC6.0, 2021 MacPro M1 chip, Adobe CC. Used AC on both platforms.

I haven't really adjusted special snap points in quite a while....Today I thought man they would come in handy. For some strange reason, I can't change it from half to divisions? Anybody had this before. I must have clicked it ten times, and it won't allow me to change it. Please tell me it is something simple.....
I have had the same experience, and not found any way to get it working, i.e. to make the selection/click stick. Today, for reasons I don't understand, it works - I was able to change from half to divisions and back again.

hi there I'm also having this problem. I'm using the EDU vesion build 3862, resatrting ArchiCAD does nothing to fix this…
what exactly do you mean by rebooting the workstation?… thought you meant restarting ArchiCAD

I've been having this same problem with "Special Snap Values" being stuck on Half. I've had this happen on AC 14 and now AC 15. This is maddening!

If I reboot my computer it works again for a while, maybe 30 minutes, but eventually it stops working again and I can't select the "special" values anymore.

I got a response from Graphisoft Support and they suggested deleting all the files from migrating my work environment. They told me which files and I followed it exactly. There was even a support page on the topic. Anyway, it didn't help at all.

Did you get a resolution to this problem?

Thanks for ANY insight or help with this!

P.S. I'm using a 2010 iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Hi,
I've been having this same problem for the last year on AC14 and now on AC15. It's really frustrating. It works for maybe a half hour or so after a reboot and then stops working before too long.

Did anyone find a real fix for this?

I use a 2010 iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

After talking to Graphisoft support I deleted everything related to my migrated settings. They had a support page on how to do it. I did all that and it didn't help. The upgrade to AC15 didn't help either.

I use special snap values all the time and it's a basic tool. I'm sort of flabbergasted/annoyed that GS can't fix this. I've found three pages on the AC Talk forum where people have posted this problem.

Thanks for any light you can shed on how to fix this!

If you are not already doing so - try going to Window > Palettes and make the old Control Box palette visible. Rod's screenshot earlier in this thread shows that he is using it. I'm guessing that some of the folks who are having problems are using the controls in the "Standard Toolbar" instead?

I've never had any problems with special snaps, but being an old-timer like Rod, I've never stopped using the Control Box for this feature.

Please post if you are having this problem with the Control Box or with the Standard Toolbar special snap buttons?

Cheers,
Karl

Karl, thanks for your quick response with a solution to try. I saw Rod's post when I was searching for this topic earlier and tried it right away...but it didn't work with the old Control Box palette either. I do use it sometimes and usually have it open for using the offset command.

So I'm having trouble with both the Standard Toolbar and the Control Box.

Oh how I wish it would have been that easy!

Thanks,

Cary

Hi Cary,

Try closing the standard toolbar temporarily and see if that helps any. (Or even make a copy of it and delete the special snap button(s) from the copy.)

ArchiCAD attempts to synchronize the values seen in the toolbar button and in the Control Box at all times. This messed up a lot when the toolbar interface was first introduced (in 10 maybe?) - things would not sync and strange things happened. I still have a hunch that it is some kind of regression bug with the coordination of these two interfaces...

Cheers,
Karl

Thanks, Karl - I'll try that immediately!

Karl,
I did exactly what you said: I created a "standard" toolbar with the special snap button deleted and renamed it as a duplicate, then used the Control Box to do special snaps.

The special snap values worked for a couple hours using the Control Box, but later on it stopped working and I couldn't switch it off the "Half" setting.

*Sigh*

Who knows what this crazy bug is. I appreciated your efforts to help!

When I re-start AC everything works again. I don't have to re-boot the whole machine, just AC. Go figure.

Very strange. Too bad it cannot be easily reproduced for GS to fix whatever it might be. 😞 At least you have a workaround that works for a few hours. 😉
