3D tree object beyond parameters

I would like to know why this happens, when I use a tree object from the Archicad library and resize it, the leaves are left floating far from the trunk and branches and well beyond the dimensions given.
For example, I have a tree here that is 850x850mm, and shows this in plan, but in 3D the leaves extend to up to 1500mm from the trunk (so tree is actually 3m in diameter)
Parameters:
density in % 40
resolution of crown 70
Diam of crown 80
res of leaves 10
diam of leaves 50

I see no one bothered to share their wisdom on this one.

I've had this problem with archicad trees since right back at AC10, I've never been able to figure out how to adjust them without getting leaves floating off way outside the size of the tree...frustrates me to no end... I don't suppose you managed to figure it out did you?

sarahric & Nick00R:

What is the name of the library part? When I tried those parameters with "Tree Deciduous 05 16" the 3D model was fine.

I'm not sure about the object in question in this particular thread, I came across this topic because I was searching re how to use the archicad tree objects (any one of the deciduous series) in the standard library, I just can't get a reasonable looking tree once i start changing away from the pre-set parameters. There seems to be a particular ratio of settings that I just can't get right when I scale them down to a smaller size, say a few meters high.

Yes, any of the standard trees in the archicad library

I am not getting a problem with the parameters you listed. You can try the default settings, then change them one at a time to see which one causes the problem.

The attachment shows where I have taken the default tree and changed the parameters. You can see how a tree given the same height and diameter can look completely different when the density or crown resolution is changed.
The tree goes well beyond the diameter set at 8m.
The tree needs to be changed to look more realistic, but goes well beyond the settings

I was able to get this tree by changing the Density in % = 100, then rotating a copy of the tree 45˚ around the tree's center point. But the polygon count is also going up. If the trees are just for elevations, then a 2D version makes more sense. If the trees are for 3D, then expect more processing time, ArchiCAD is not built for handling big polygon counts, like dedicated rendering software.

Thanks David,
How did you go with the actual size of the tree. Is it beyond the size given?
Also, your image still shows leaves floating out from the tree some way.

I have a project where I wanted a low small tree (almost a bush, but the bush object is not appropriate) in my 3d rendering right next to the house, but I couldn't make it look right without leaves floating of and inside the house!

You can spend a lot more time with the tree, but the floating leaf issue is a normal outcome since tiny branches aren't rendered.

Use the ceiling element to SEO [downward] the errant indoor tree foliage.
