An automatic schedule list of properties of Windows/Doors

Hello.

I have an idea in mind, shared by most in the office. Within the scope of trying to automatize everything that is a bore to do, we ran into maximizing the automation in door and window schedules. The idea was to create a list of possible window / door written attributes that were to be chosen in each object in the project plans, and then being automatically placed in the (already formatted) schedules.

Problem is, I have no idea on how to do this.

Ideally, this is what would happen: We would have our own set of Window and Door objects (derived from Archicad standard ones) that would have new parameters (like type of opening, frame, glass, etc.,etc.) and every time we would edit a window, a list of possibilities would open up. (this would either open in the parameter list or we could even make a pretty interface)

This list of possibilities would be written in a macro (or several, divided by the type of attributes, like one for glass, one for the opening type, etc.), which would be "universal" and called by all the customized windows and doors, and which would be easily edited every time we had a new description for our windows and doors (even by people who are less acquainted to GDL scripting and so on).

Now, how the hell can I do this? Do you people have any ideas regarding this issue?

Thanks in advance.

You almost detailed it step by step:

All Doors and Windows should have those paramaters.
The possible values for those parameters should be creted using the VALUES command in the Parameter Script.
If you want to do it with a macro (which is a good idea, since any change to any possible value will have to done only in one macro object), then a macro object also needs to exist with those same parameters.
You would define the VALUES in the parameter script of the macro, and the parameter script of all Door and Window objects would call the parameter script of the macro object to load the possible parameter values.

This isn't a scheduling issue, but an issue with working with library parts, so I'm moving this to the Library Parts forum...

If you want to use the standard AC windows and doors, you have the option of using the Favorites feature, creating a named Favorite for each of your predefined types. Another option is to use visual favorites - walls that have your windows/doors pre-placed in them that you can then eyedropper to pick up their attributes.

The idea of having groups of pre-defined parameters for glazing, opening type, etc is beyond what is reasonable to re-program with the Graphisoft objects due to their dependence on complex, deeply nested macros. But... that approach is exactly what is done by the Cadimage Door/Window product, so you might want to do a 30 day free trial of it to see how it handles things.

Cheers,
Karl
