The project seems lost, though, and it is not showing some doors and windows which have definitely been loaded (they show as if I had set the Display Options for a RCP, only for these doors and windows). So I select them, open the Library Part window, open the 2D view and 3D view (they show OK) without changing any parameter, close, and voila that specific door shows but not any of the other identical doors in the rest of the floor plan. So I select every instance of the library part, repeat the process, and they will show (and will show again after I close, quit, and open, while their kins that are not showing will still not show).
What is going on here? Will I need to manually make the file remember every single door and window in this huge project? I tried Find&Select but it will not work for all instances of a given window type at the same time.

Ignacio,
I suggest that you try loading the original libraries again (with all the duplicates) and see if you still have the problem. If all the doors, etc. are OK, save the file as an archive, open it, and see if it still works. If so, extract the project library from the archive, toss the AC8.1US parts and load this as the project library along with the regular US library.
Also, are the problem doors from 6.5? You might need to convert them via the special menu, or load them from an already converted library.
I hope this helps. I remember having a similar experience in AC8.0 but I can't remember the details.

While neither option click > option+shift click seemed to work for updating all instances of the same part at once, and selecting all of them and opening the library part window only updated one of them, the method that did work for updating all insertions of the object in one move was making the project 'remind' one of the insertions, then using it to create a favorite, and then find&selecting all the 'invisible instances' of the same object and double clicking on the favorite.
I don't know what was going on. Apparently it was not library-chaos related, for it continued after clean up, merging, etc.
