Dynamic preview

Guys-
been away for a few years but getting back into Archicad 14. Aquestion surfaced that I thought had been addressed years ago: when, after selecting a library part to insert, whenine goes to the Floorplan, the part or object turns into a bounding box. The part itself doesn't reappear until mouse up on insertion.

Am I confused or do I recall Archicad goingto dynamic preview of objects?

Thanks!

Nobody??? What am I doing wrong that I cannot see the library part as I am locating its insertion point??? When working with large objects, it is extremely time consuming to insert, the flip, rotate etc to get part in correct orientation. I don't recall having to do that, but maybe I did.

It has always been see nothing or a bounding box as you are placing an object (Work Environment settings as you mentioned) as far as I know.

Before you place the object look it the settings dialogue and look at the 2D preview.
There you can choose the anchor point (the little crosses at selected nodes) and you can rotate as you want before you place the object.

Is it the various Geometry Method options you are after? Orthogonal just places the object as it is set, Rotated allows you to alter the rotation after placement, Diagonal resizes the object, and Rotated Diagonal asks for size and rotation after placement.

Hi Stuart! Log time gone for me!

No, what I thought I recalled was being able to actually see the object in dynamic preview as you were placing it on the floor plan, al la ACAD, VectorWorks, etc.

I am dealing with some very complex and large library parts (housing groups--laying out a graphic plan for a housing development) and it would really be nice if one could actually "see" the "houses" as they are placed, instead of just an outline f the object's geometrical limits.

If one draws a circle, and drag copies it, you see the circle as you move it. If you make a library part out of the same circle, when you either insert it or copy the resulting object, you see a "box" describing the circle's limits, not the circle itself. I want to see the circle.

Does that make sense?

Makes sense, but unfortunately never been that way in Archicad, AFAIK.
