GDL - hotspots and stretchy component

I am building a (relatively) simple GDL object - a 2D grid with a broken line external over-hang where the grid will just keep adding in lines as it's stretched and the overhang remains constant.

When it's just the grid, it stretches and works. When I add the overhang and put in hotlines, the stretch command is no longer available in the pet pallet.
Has anyone any insight on where I could be going wrong?

If I stop before drawing the rafter lines it does what I want. After I draw them, I can't stretch.

(I am just starting to work with GDL, but I can program in other languages)

Sorted it - I had locked the A and B settings by fixing them to a user entered variable.
