How do you go about selecting an object?

When drawing, in this case a folding door, I have great difficulty selecting the Arrow tool for the door with the mouse. I keep clicking here and there without highlighting it, after many attempts I succeed, how should I proceed? Thank you

Press TAB to cycle through possible selections. When selecting doors or windows, I find it easiest to select one of the corners of the wall hole or the end of the door leaf.

As Ling said any corner hotspot, and often the end of the door panel has a hotspot - these are the easiest places to select.
In fact any hotspot is good - but you need to know where they are as you can't see them until you select the door.

Also often there is a fill for what would be the sill frame - even if it is not showing.
If you have the 'QuickSelect' magnet active (Spacebar is a shortcut toggle key), you can select that (or any other) fill.

You can also place a marquee around the door, activate the door tool and press CTRL+A.
This will select all doors inside the marquee.
Do it without the marquee and it will select all doors in the plan.

I am having trouble adding an image for some unknown reason.
