How high is too high in terms of polycount?

What is the recommended limit for polycount for something like a Toilet or basin? is 2000 too high?

Compare with the standard one...

BTW - polygon count is not the only factor that can make object sluggish or not.

Avoiding ANY complex group operations is the key...
(I compared a *prism with parametric holes with a brick with same parametric drilled holes with subgroup...and 10 times slower might be the right factor)

You can always give your users choices.

For examples :
1. Simple
2. Acceptable for BIM
3. Might crash your machine!

Most users know that if they are going after photo-realistic rendering, there's a price to pay.

I think an option to display in wireframe mode is also a nice one so your user doesn't have to create a new layer for it.
