Importing objects as GDL objects

I have the ability to create parts/objects and save them in the .3ds file format. I know that AC can import these files as GDL objects but I would like to know if after the part/object is imported is it possible to select portions of the object and rename them as a wall or something. As an example, let's say that I create a hollow box in my 3D CAD and save it as a .3ds file. Next I would import the object (box) which saves it in the embedded library as a GDL object. Is it possible change the sides of the box to walls and the top and bottom to slabs? I know AC can create walls and slabs but this is just a simple example. I ask as I could see this being useful when using more complex organic type shapes.

Once an object always an object.
You can convert to a morph f you want to edit it further but it will never be a wall.

A little trick though if you want to put a door or window in something that is not a wall.

You will have to cut an opening either with an SEO or by converting to a morph and editing.
Then add a small piece of wall in the opening (doesn't even have to be the same size) and then place your door or window in that wall.

You have to edit the opening and window separately if the size changes but that is easy enough.
