Issue with OSX 10.3.3 and server llibraries

Hello to all Mac users running 10.3.3 with libraries located on remote machines. Just ignore, those who are running Windows as I am sure you are unaffected.

I am attaching a picture of the before and after of the Library Manager window.

I, last week, installed the 10.3.3 update of OS X. Then I went to work on a new project. I opened a new file. Then went to attach our office library standards from our server. I found that I could see the server, but cannot open the arrow to see the directories to add the specific directory where our parts are.

I can run projects which have the libraries already attached. They load fine. I cannot add any additional libraries to projects. I am having to have others add the libraries for me, save and close the file, so I can work on them.

Is there anyone else having the same problem. I thought this might be an existing file problem. So I did a New & Reset. Nothing has changed. Should I trash my preference file?

I will have to check this. I haven't noticed this problem, but I usually add missing libraries by the History panel. I will check tomorrow at the office and report back.

Hi all,

We recently identified this issue with the ArchiCAD and Mac OS.10.3. We will check how the problem could be solved on ArchiCAD's side, but for the time being the workaround is to connect to the remote computer using it's IP address, or if there is a domain name server in the network, the cumputername.domain address will also work. The .local and the IP6 addresses do not work.

Dear Greg

How does a person connect to the remote machine as you describe using IP address?

I cannot find which tab to use or where to enter the IP address.

Then once there, how will I navigate to the desired directory?

If you are refering to the ability of my machine seeing the server outside of ArchiCAD, I have no problems here. I only have problems seeing the remote machine from within ArchiCAD. Please clarify how you recommend connecting and I will get this a try.

TIA.

use the "Connect to Server" command from the finder's 'Go' menu.

type in the servers address:
afp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

where the x's are your server's IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.123)

you should be able to navigate through your directories normally . . .

I just checked mine and there are no problems getting through to the server using the library manager. I usually connect to the server using the IP address. To do this in the finder window use the "Go" menu and select "Connect to server" there you are prompted for a server address. Type in the IP address that is a series of numbers separated by decimals. If you don't the address, check in the servers sharing preference file.

Sorry, I must have been too technical.

The whole thing is done outside ArchiCAD. Instead of using an alias, or browsing the network to connect to a remote computer, go to the 'Go' menu in Finder, select 'Connect to Server', and in the appearing window type smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the Server address field. (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx should be the IP address of the remote computer)
Select the volume you wish to mount. The volumes mounted this way will behave normally when accessed through the library manager in ArchiCAD.

If smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx does not work, try just typing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx without the smb://

If you don't know the IP address of the other computer, open terminal window and type:
nslookup othercomputer
This will give back the IP-address of the computer named 'othercomputer'

Dear ~/archiben and gkmethy

Issue is NOT with connecting to the server. Issue is with reading the contents of the server from WITHIN ArchiCAD's Library Manager.

Take a look at my graphic again. See that I have the server (Server HD) mounted. I am trying to click on the arrow to the left of the image to get inside the drive and get to the directory which has my library objects. (See second message as I cannot post to images to single message)

I am not trying to mount the server on my machine. I am trying to see the contents of the server from within the Library Manager so that I can attach libraries to a project and use them in my drawings.

thanks for the post and perhaps it will be helpful for someone needing to learn how to reach a remote machine for general Mac use. But I am talking about use from within ArchiCAD.

Try to take a New and Reset file and then add to it your prefered library which is located on a remote machine. Not a local machine (your own). When you do a New and Reset, ArchiCAD will set the file to read by default the local copy of the ArchiCAD 8.1.pla library. If you want another library, say of casework from Cabinet Builder, you need to load it via the Library Manager. But these additional libraries for our office are on a remote machine. I have not been able to add these libraries since upgrading to 10.3.3.

Is anyone else seeing the same problem in the same way. Not via the Finder, but through ArchiCAD?

Here is the second graphic to my other post.

this one shows the opened drive to get to desired directory.

in 10.3 there are two ways of connecting to the same place - each of those ways has several different methods (protocols) of connecting, so it is NOT as simply as you think:

the issue with archiCAD is that the library manager has trouble navigating servers that have been connected via the network browser: if you connect by manually typing the servers address, the library manager is fine.
