Unfortunately the next Cookbook will be a while yet, its being written, but for now, the quick answer is that ArchiCAD 8 has different Rules for doors and Windows (and lamps and other special objects). EVERYTHING is now a
GSM object. DOR and WIN and LMP objects are out. GDL was spawning too many 3 letter suffices, and its now down to internal ID numbers to tell ArchiCAD if its a Object or a Window.
That [Select Subtypes] Button is the answer. Lets hope you have made it correctly according to the early rules (face down on the floor, origin centred on the centre of the sill). Now hit the subtypes button, tell ArchiCAD its a Window and you will see it stand smartly upright in the little preview window.
By the way, dont feel bad about not knowing this. I wrote the CB in 2000, but i remember the first time after trying to write GDL with 8 in 2003 (instead of reading the effing manual) emailing Karl Ottenstein to ask the very same question (he had had his first 8 version some months longer I think).

I attempting to make the simple sash window from the gdl cookbook. I started it as an object and now want to save it as a window. How do I accomplish this? I did it once before but I'm not getting the option to do it this time.
