Option to Turn off 3D view of objects

The option/toggle to Turn off 3D view of a significant number of objects seems to have disappeared in AC28 - has it been relocated? We do not want various 3D objects floating around the project in spaces that have not yet been fully modelled....

Unfortunately it is now controlled globally in model view options. All have to either be on or off. It’s the same for 2D level of detail options. It has been discussed previously so will hopefully be changed back.

No - it has not been reallocated and I'm pretty sure this has to do with the MVO development aimed at centralising the control but which as implemented is retrograde as it no longer is possible to have multiple levels of detail for doors and windows in one view. It seems as while objects got to keep the ability to override MVO, the list of options (atleast for GS objects) got reduced to whats available through MVO - removing 'off'...

Issues like this was brought up during beta but all we got back was some faulty explanation of what a "real BIM object" is with regards to its display... Criteria based MVO would remove the need for overrides and centralising control while keeping the option to have multiple detail levels in one view but I don't have any expectations of this being introduced anytime soon and I doubt that they even will adress the lost functionality.

Thank you Lee & thesleepofreason  for your rapid response and succinct explanations.

From my perspective, a case of "two steps forward and one step backwards". There is insufficient granularity in MVO settings to control what is and is not seen in 3D. As a scheme is developed through its design & documentation stages, we try to place BIM objects early for efficiency - but we do not want to see them in 3D views, sections & elevations since they are out of context.

If I understand correctly, we now have to revert to placing 2D objects which are later replaced - manually - by BIM objects...hmmmm, can only think that the software engineers forgot to talk to an architect or designer about this 'feature'...

Exactly. We need to be able to place full fledged objects/element at first instance and have their representation reflect the level or relevance of specification for a view which naturally is different for different objects/elements - not wasting time with ad hoc symbolic objects... The new MVO settings was exciting as it looked promising but turned out to be yet another hack job where it is questionable if the workflow gain even is a net positive.

During Beta testing i was strongly opposed to disable this function. Moreover i was suggesting that we should have ability to trough MVO to control each lib pack, but i was "encouraged"  with explanation that layers are enough to control the outcome of wanted results. I hope that in future we will see the ability to control 3D and 2D with MVO or at least to have original function to turn them in 3D.

Cheers,
